    Dealing With Parasites

Parasites are not only a bane to your dog’s existence but also for owners too. It would be pure nightmare to discover tiny critters crawling in your couch and walls. So before such problem goes out of hand, you nip to nip it in the bud, so to speak. Attempting to control fleas is actually a multi-step process, which should include: removing fleas in the environment both indoor and outdoor, removing fleas from pets and immature fleas.
    Indoor
Vacuum furniture and fixtures thoroughly, including drapes and sleeping area of your pet
Use effective parasite killers that can also get rid of developing eggs and larvae.
Foggers can also highly effective especially in highly infested areas.
Wash pet’s beddings on a weekly basis and spray surrounding area to prevent fleas and ticks from developing.

    Outdoor
    Kennel areas
    Yard including organic debris
    Porches and patios
    Dog houses

Pet – there are a number of products that can effectively ward off parasites from breeding and thriving on your pet’s fur – topical products, sprays, shampoos, powders and even injectable ones. You can use it regularly to prevent fleas from developing and at the same time relieve any discomfort brought about by parasites. Among the highly recommended brands in the market are: Bio Spot, Advantage, K9 Advantix and Revolution. However, prevention is still better than cure, and repellants are considered to be the cornerstone of employing preventive measures. Pyrethrins and permethrins are considered to be the best products in the market today. Be sure to ask your veterinarian about it.

    Internal Parasites

While your pet may outwardly seem like he is at the peak of health, you cannot entirely discount the fact the parasites may be present in its digestive system. Roundworm, tapeworms and whipworms are hard to detect unless to would carefully examine the stool and vomit. Regular deworming should start as early as 2 weeks old and should be administered repeatedly at 4, 6 and 8 weeks of age mainly because puppies are more at risk than adult dogs. As dogs reach maturity, an annual deworming program can be followed to ensure that your pet will not fall prey to the menacing clutches of parasites.
