How To Spot Pet Food Poisoning In Your Dog
Signs Of Pet Food Poisoning There are a number of signs of pet food poisoning that all pet owners should be made aware of. If you believe that your dog has one or more of these symptoms, call your vet immediately. Doing so could save your dog's life. Change In Your Pet's Behavior. One of the first and most common signs of pet food poisoning, is an extreme difference in your pet's normal behavior. Does Fido suddenly have no interest in his favorite toy? Is Fifi suddenly avoiding her bowl, when she used to beg to be fed? It may be a sign of pet food poisoning. Change In Your Pet's Sleeping Patterns. Is your once overactive, energetic pup suddenly sleeping all day and night, with no desire to go out and play? Extreme fatigue can be a sign of more severe pet food poisoning in your dog. Digestive Problems. Just like humans, if your pet contracts food poisoning, he or she will usually exhibit symptoms of digestive distress such as vomiting, excessive diarrhea, and frequent urination. Call your vet immediately if your pet exhibits one of these more severe symptoms. Apparent Disorientation. If your dog appears disoriented or unsteady, it may be a sign of pet food poisoning. Often when dogs contract food poisoning, they may walk almost as if they're drunk, and may experience tremors as well. What To Do If Your Dog Has Pet Food Poisoning The most important thing to remember if you suspect your dog has pet food poisoning, is to never induce vomiting unless instructed by your veterinarian. Call your veterinarian immediately; or, better yet, rush your beloved pet to the vet or to a local veterinary emergency room, if you believe your dog has become a victim of pet food poisoning. Knowing all of the possible signs of pet food poisoning can help to protect your dog should the worse happen, and allow you to spend many more years with your best friend. |
