    Havanese Dogs: The Fleecy Breed

Belonging to the breed group of Toy, the Havanese dogs are one of the most adoring canines on earth. It is noted and highly valued specifically for its wonderful appearance, as well as for its affectionate character. However, due to certain circumstances, the Havenese dogs are now becoming extinct, now being recognized as part of the American Rare Breed Association in the United States and other areas in the world.

    History and Origin

The history of Havanese dogs is not actually well told. Only little findings were revealed to show its origin. According to the findings, the Havanese dogs originate from Cuba and were developed from an ancient breed known as Blanquito de la Habana. It was later brought to other areas in America, Europe, Australia, and Asia.

    Appearance

The Havanese dogs boast a wonderful appearance. It is revered primarily for its hairy and soft coat that comes in different shades. Most breeds of Havanese come in gold, silver, blue, black, tan, cream, champagne, and even parti-color and tri-color. Its coat is doubled, but sheds too little. The hairs lie close to its body and are so soft in texture. They are also long and plenty, with the hairs growing in a length of about 6 to 8 inches. The hairs of the Havenese dogs are curly, but there are also others that grow straight.

Aside from its coat and hairs, the Havenese dogs are noted also for its long and strong legs. These legs are basically what allow them to move freely and easily. They also have dark eyes and long tails, both covered by its long silky hair.

    Character and Temperament

If you are looking for a canine breed that is fun loving, devoted and intelligent, the Havanese dogs can be your best option. This dog breed is in fact considered by many people are a true delight knowing that they love to play and curious. They also love to be part of a family and even adore children. They do not like to be left alone, especially for extended hours, and although they come in small sizes, they can be great watchdogs as they bark to alert their masters in case of intrusions. Perhaps the good thing about the Havanese dogs is that once they befriend with someone, even a stranger, they remain to be friends for life.

    Proper Care

With its long and silky hair, the Havanese dogs require regular grooming. You need to comb and brush their hairs at least two times a week, or you can clip their hairs for a much easier care. It is also important to clean their ears, eyes and other parts of the body to keep them clean and odorless. And, for better health, the Havanese dogs require regular walking exercises.
